Apple cancels the AirPower wireless charging mat, citing quality issues

It’s official. Today, Apple cancelled its perennially delayed wireless charging product, AirPower. In a statement, Cupertino blamed issues meeting its own quality standards. Here’s what Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said in a statement emailed to TechCrunch: “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.” It’s not clear what the exact problem was, but the Internet…
